I just don’t get it. I’ve had dogs you could consider to be “pocket pets”, and I even once sprung for a dog carrier/backpack thing, but it was for a practical reason – the dog couldn’t ride our ATV without help. Never, in all my years of owning dogs and other small animals, have I been tempted to buy a purse to carry my dog in.
Carrying a dog with perfectly functioning legs seems like such a waste of energy to me, not to mention cost when you look at the price tags on some of those purse things. Why on earth should a perfectly healthy dog be packed around all its life like a little helpless baby? And if you have your dog in a purse, where do you put your real purse? Is there a separate compartment for putting the things you actually need to carry with you?
I admit, I am guilty of packing my little dog around on occasion. It can be simpler in a hectic situation to just pack the pooch instead of worrying about it getting trampled. But to go shopping or spend the day out and about with poor Fido stuck in a bag? No way.
So for those of you who have purses for your dogs, why do you do it? I honestly want to know, because the reasoning behind it is clearly over my head. Is there some logical, practical reason to do so, or is it like spending $400 on a purse because of the name it carries – just to be cool?
