10 Ways to Celebrate Rabbit Week, Part II

6. Take Care of Your Current Pet Rabbit

Have you ever had your rabbit checked out by a vet or vaccinated? Do you let him or her have plenty of bouncing play time, and sweet carrot treats to eat? If not, now is a great time to start doing so. Many people do not think of rabbits like cats and dogs, but they do have many similar needs. People who raise rabbits to sell should also make sure they provide proper food, shelter, and care, as well as safe, clean breeding boxes. You can learn more about rabbit issues here, and you can schedule an appointment with your local veterinarian to make a plan of action for your rabbit’s health needs.

5. Learn All About Rabbits

If all you know about rabbits comes from Loony Tunes or Easter, look up info on rabbits this week to satiate your curiosity. Parents can teach their children about the little critters, too. My House Rabbit has plenty of great information, from whether it’s okay to let domesticated rabbits outside or not to how to clip a rabbit’s nails to what the noises a rabbit makes mean.

4. Make Rabbit Crafts

If your children are too young to have a rabbit yet, you can help them learn more about the creatures by making various rabbit crafts, drawing pictures, looking up information, and pretending that you have pet rabbits with (fake!) furry stuffed animal rabbits. Reading books about the animals will also help.

3. Celebrate Your Favorite Rabbit

Did you have a companion rabbit as a child? Perhaps, like me, you were infatuated with a certain cartoon rabbit by the name of Thumper! Think about your favorite rabbit this week and how he or she influenced your life. Share your memories with others, or watch films like Bambi with your children.

2. Give Time to Shelter Rabbits

Offer to help clean cages, play with rabbits, feed them, and generally help take care of shelter rabbits in your area. You may discover that you love it and would like to take one home! And if you don’t, it’s a good experience to have that will let you know if rabbits might be compatible for your lifestyle.

1. Donate to a Rabbit Welfare Organization

Whether it’s your local shelter or a nonprofit organization like the Ontario Rabbit Education Organization, your gift can help others save rabbits from a dismal fate.
